If you have scars, skin discolorations or uneven skin tones, you might think that nothing will help you. Dermal fillers are perfect for getting rid of wrinkles, and chemical peels will help smooth the face, but neither treatment helps get rid of facial scars. This is where ProFractional™ comes in. Using sophisticated laser treatments, ProFractional™ can help rid your face of scarring by using your body’s natural healing processes.
Estetika Skin and Laser Specialists proudly offer ProFractional™.
How Does ProFractional™ Work?
ProFractional™ is a type of skin laser resurfacing, but instead of blanketing the treatment area all at once, ProFractional™ works by creating narrow channels within the skin, cutting the treatment area in half. Once the ProFractional™ system creates these channels, the body interprets it as a type of trauma and begins the process of healing itself. This healing process creates new collagen and new skin, and could make your scarring disappear.
ProFractional™ uses an erbium: YAG laser, which pierces better and is more effective than traditional Co2 lasers. It can create narrow channels with less heat and less trauma to the surrounding skin, which cuts down on recovery time and provides better results.
Another aspect of ProFractional™ that truly sets it apart is its ability to adjust to reach virtually any depth of skin that’s needed. It can be aimed to attack only the most shallow portions of the dermis to create minor skin trauma, or it can be used deep enough for blood to be drawn. However you want your treatment to be, ProFractional™ can make it work.
What Happens Before, During and After the Appointment?
During your initial consultation, we will go over the best ways to prepare for your procedure. The main thing you’ll have to do is keep the area around the treatment clean and well taken care of. It could be possible that we’ll advise you to cease the use of some medications or vitamins you’re taking as well.
During the appointment, a member of our medical staff will go over the process of numbing the treatment area. This could involve something as light as a topical gel, all the way to general anesthesia and sedation; it just depends on the area being treated.
The appointment’s length of time will also depend on the size of the area being treated. However, every appointment is outpatient, and most will last under a couple of hours.
Once the procedure is done, it’s important to listen to our doctors for the best ways to take care of the treated area. This usually involves the use of petroleum jelly to prevent scarring, the use of sunscreen to protect the skin and, in some cases, the use of bandages and cleaning materials. The full length of time it takes for recovery depends on the person, but most patients begin to see results after a couple of days, with the best results being shown after a few months.
